Brain X-RayStroke is a common illness. It can affect the patient and his/her family in many years. Hence understanding what stroke is the first step to take. A stroke, also called a “brain attack”, occurs when a portion of the brain is damaged due to a lack of blood supply to that part of brain. Lack of oxygen carried by the blood, with 32,000 neurons — brain cells – die every second and 14 billion synapses, the vital intersections between neurons lost every minute, the brain starts to die and rapidly looses brain functions. As a result, the part of the body controlled by this portion of the brain does not function normally. The larger area of the damage, the more deficits the patients will have. Unlike other cells in the body, brain cells that die from stroke are unable to regrow into new cells.
